The Ovens and Buckland and other local rivers offer varied water for canoing , kayaking or just floating down the river. Local operators can take you on a short trip down part of the calmer but interesting sections of the river or give you a day of instruction and excitement on a more challenging part. In the warmer months canoing and kayaking tours are available, but need to be booked in advance. Why not try a float down the river through the small canyon on your own lilo from Centenary Park Bright down stream in summer?
The Ovens River is dammed at Bright and Porepunkah from around Christmas to Easter to create long cool river swimming pools.
